Essentially a group of travelers were on their way to Stonehenge for the Summer Solstice. The police decided that they wanted to stop them from attending the gathering and what you saw is how the police handled stopping them. Although I wasn't there I know some of the folks who were and who were part of the legal action that was taken against the police. Not all British police are like that, but this particular area is noted for being aggressive, it's the same constabulary that Glastonbury Festival falls under.
