Last week I decided to overcome my fear of sewing machines.
As some of you may know I was once terrorized by a wild band of Scottish nuns as a child and to this day I still carry the scars if you will. My fear of sewing machines was one such scar, and one I no longer needed to continue to wear.
Thus it was that I sat before the beast and listened to is growlings before setting forth upon my epic journey to master it.
I had begun to hand sew a couple of pouches to go with my dream board I had always wanted to do some beading but had never had the courage to put thread to needle. Once I had completed the first bag, beads and all I thought to myself "that was easy, I bet I could use a sewing machine to speed up the process". And I did, it worked out, although I think my hand stitching is neater, however it got the job done and I beaded the second bag right up.
Then I stitched up cloth to match them...
And I had a set!
My fear was behind me and it was time to move on!

Those are very nice! I inherited my grandma's sewing machine, but for the life of me I cannot sew!
This is very inspiring and gives me hope. I am also terrified of sewing machines and thought I was alone. My brother sewed his finger with a machine when I was a kid and that absolutely scarred me. I do have a machine and now wonder if I can get over my fear and make something as lovely as what you have made! Wonderful!
I wish I knew how to use a sewing machine. Maybe someday! You did some pretty wonderful things with one! Congrats on conquering your fears! Hugs!
Suzie,
That's exactly what got me scared!
I was terrified, but I knew I needed to get over it so I started with something small and so far so good!
Good for you!
Looks like you conquered your fears and ended up with some great items. About all I can do with a sewing machine is the basic straight stitch. My mom was an elcellent seamstress but she never taught me!
Cat will you teach your big sister?
love B
Great job!!
I also am afraid to sew, the last time I used one was in 7th grade home ec. I made a pair of shorts, the material had penguins and ice caps on it. "to be cool"
The nuns sound scarier, so I think I should follow your brave path and it give it another go!
How on earth do you sew beads on a bag with the machine????
I'm intrigued.
Oh no, the beads were hand sewn on.
